The Power and the Glory: Part 1b

Hello everyone! This is Caleb Ware back for day 2 in Mexico to journal about this man named Trench. Unlike last time however, I will not be taking you on my adventures. Instead, I am going off on my on, and then tonight I shall return and start to journal my memories and thoughts of the day.

Hello again. Today, I have discovered numerous things. First thing was I got to meet the lieutenant of the policemen in this town. He seems to be one of the head-honchos in this town, ordering his prisoners and force squad with an iron fist. Today however was interesting because when I was in ear range of him, I heard one of his men saying that the governor is telling him of a priest that is still alive and how he is a wanted man. I will bet my life that they're looking for the stranger that visited Trent in my first journal. It's interesting because one of the lieutenant's men keeps complaining about a tooth ache, and that he needs a dentist. First the stranger, and now this guy. It just seems like more than a coincidence. Anyways, the lieutenant also mentioned a man named James Calver, who apparently is a wanted man for robbery and homicide. I'm not sure if that is relevant to my piece here, but you never know what I can use later. Anyways, back to the topic at hand. So I followed this lieutenant guy back to his house, and he seems to really be a non-believer in God. I  hear him saying how infuriated he was that people still believed in a loving and merciful God. Perhaps it's because what has happened to Mexico since religion was banned from them, I don't pretend to know. About this time, I got tired and decided to move on elsewhere because the lieutenant was about to fall asleep. However, while I was walking past a building, I heard this woman reading to her family. Then I heard them reading about a young Juan, who was a little boy who followed Christ and tried to do what he felt was right in God's eyes. Surely this has to be a banned book as well, and to see this mother dangerously reading this book to her kids is weird, yet heartbreakingly touching to see her risking her life to bring her children up righteously. Then, I also met an older man named Jose, who also seemed to believe that there is no such thing as a God in this world and that there is too much horror in this world for such thing to be possible. Next, I learned about a Captain Fellows, who was going home to his banana plantations. Now I am extremely confused because I have met so many people and have heard their stories, but none seem to correlate right now or just run smoothly together. It's like someone took out different parts in a big book and put them together. Apparently, the captain has run into the lieutenant and the he is asking the captain he's looking for the strange man who met with Trench, because the captain's daughter was living with Lopez, the strangers good friend. They eventually make a deal to help each other find this man. So, some of the pieces are connecting, but the overall stories are still scattered and somewhat random. Now, my writing is shifting back to Mr Trench, and then back to Jose. Well this is it for now. This is Caleb Ware everyone, until next time.

  1. You have done a good job of fulfilling the journal/article format that the project requires. Cheers. I very much enjoy the fact that you are covering all of the main characters simultaneously, keeping pace with the book's story line as a whole. I also liked the fact that you mentioned James Calver, the gringo fugitive. It shall be interesting how he fits into the story, if at all.
